Janek Schergen is Swedish/American and trained by Richard Ellis, Christine DuBoulay and Benjamin Harkarvy. He danced with Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet and has been the balletmaster/company teacher for The Washington Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Norwegian National Ballet. In 1991, he graduated from the Benesh Institute in London as a choreologist. Mr. Schergen is the Artistic Director of the Choo San Goh & H. Robert Magee Foundation and Chairman of The Choo San Goh Awards for Choreography. In 2008 he was appointed Artistic Director of Singapore Dance Theatre and has staged numerous full-length classical ballets, as well as 11 of Choo-San Goh’s ballets for the company. In addition, he has been involved with several arts committees and panels with the Singapore National Arts Council in Singapore.
